At FAB Football Academy we believe that Communication is one of the most powerful tools for the growth and development of kids at the grassroots level. We offer one of the best football programs for kids in Gurgaon, and in this blog, we will showcase the importance of effective communication in the growth, development, and performance of kids in football.
Communication Determines Actions, Actions Determine Performance
Every action taken on the field is determined by the thought process of the child, which is shaped by how they respond to the coach’s communication in training.
If a child constantly gets stuck in their head when they have the ball, it could mean that they are scared of making mistakes. This can further indicate that the communication style of the coach hasn’t allowed this kid to be comfortable with making mistakes. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the coach isn’t encouraging, it could just mean that the communication style didn’t work for this particular kid.
Similarly, if a child is making good decisions quickly on the field, then this could mean that the style of the coach’s communication is working for this particular child.
The Inflexibility in Communication style hinders progress
One of the biggest mistakes that is made in communication is assuming that all kids process information the same way. This inflexibility can lead to slower development of certain kids without them being at fault.
If a coach has a more disciplinary and assertive approach, some kids might respond well to that style. Whereas, some kids might not respond well, and it might seem like they don’t listen to instructions, are indisciplined or are just slow.
Similarly, if a coach has a softer and gentler approach, some kids might respond well to that style. Whereas, some kids might not respond well, and it might seem that they are unfocused, uninterested or are rowdy.
One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to coaching at the grassroots level, and if the coach doesn’t adapt to the personality of the kids, then they will not grow and develop at their full potential
How do we adapt to the personality of the child?
Observe – Innovate – Persist
At FAB Football Academy, we help our coaches develop their observation skills and make sure they are constantly trying new ways to adapt to the personalities of kids to help them grow. We also make sure all coaches persist to get through to kids no matter how long it takes.
Simple, Specific instructions repeated over a period of time are the most effective
We believe that keeping our teachings simple by only targeting a few coaching points over a period of time allows our kids to learn fast. Furthermore, combining this with specific instructions tailored to each child gives a massive boost to their growth.
If we teach the skill Scissors, we would prefer to do it over a long time as that would give each child the time to learn at their own pace. This would in turn also help our coaches to come up with specific instructions tailored to each child’s learning pace.
